Broadcast is a composition made out of fragments taken from unedited archived studio improvisations, performed and recorded between 2020 and 2021. It focuses on sampling and manipulating live public radio broadcasts, with pockets of music and news packages teased out of linear time and fed into loops, distortions and delays. Even the content of these extracts speaks to a preoccupation with the messiness of unfolding time: the flaring of intergenerational anxieties about mobile phone usage, the sadly cyclical nature of social progress, historical anthropology, nostalgia for the 90s, cartoon impunctuality and more. Looping both estranges and intensifies the meaning at the source (Jack Chuter).
